Due to the Vietnam war, the country had to shift from premium coffee bean (Robusta) to a more bitter Arabica bean. The people learned to balance the bitter with the sweet to make the world renowned Ca Phe Sua Da.

Other countries to have kept the Arabica bean after a war are Switzerland and Italy, both coffee enthusiast.
